Missouri Plates

After many months of review, officials with the State of Missouri have informed us that they will not be processing our Gorilla license plate application, and that no university plate will be made available for our alumni.

The decision is based on legislation passed in May of this year. The legislation was apparently designed to stop the state of Missouri from issuing a specialty license plate featuring the University of Kansas Jayhawk.

After a careful review of the law, legal counsel for the State of Missouri has determined that it does not allow the manufacture of any out-of-state university to have a specialty license plate. In fact, we’re told that the state will now stop manufacturing specialty plates featuring the University of Arkansas, even though they have been available for many years.

We’re disappointed in the decision. Because of it, more than 14,000 Pitt State alumni and friends will not have the opportunity to show their Gorilla pride and financially support their home state. We have been informed that there is nothing we can do to advance the license plate applications of the more than 200 alumni who had already pledged support for this program.

Thank you for your incredible support and enduring patience as we have worked through this process. Your passion for your university is unquestionable and unrivaled.
