Communication - MA Overview
Type: Pre-Professional
Students who earn a MA degree in communication will gain skills in problem-solving, analysis, research methods and scholarly writing. Working with an advisor, a master's degree student in communication can design a program to match an individual's career choice. Qualified candidates may be eligible for assistantships, which provide a tuition waiver and a graduate teaching stipend.
The curriculum is divided into Applied Communication, Communication Education, Mass Communication and Theatre. The program includes courses in advertising, broadcasting, journalism, international communication, theatre production and performance, public relations, organizational communication, interpersonal communication and graduate seminars in communication theory.

Graduate Admission Requirements
Communication (MA):
Admission to the Communication program requires an undergraduate GPA of 3.0. However, student's who did not earn a 3.0 undergraduate GPA are still encouraged to apply. These students can be admitted conditionally to the program with the requirement of taking the GRE and earning a verbal score of at least 500 and a combined verbal and quantitative score of 1,000.
Admission also requires submission of the following:
- 2 letters of reference
- A statement of intent

For International students, a TOEFL score of 550/79 or an IELTS score of 6.5 overall and in all bands is required. Applicants cannot substitute the Intensive English Program for the TOEFL for admission to this department.
