R. Scott Gorman


About

Scott Gorman is a University Professor and has taught 30 years for Pittsburg State University. He has also served 26 years as Graduate Coordinator of the Master of Science Program for the Health, Human Performance and Recreation department. Scott has an Ed.D. from the University of Georgia, a Master of Arts Degree from Western Carolina University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Elon College. He has 18 publications in SHAPE America (Society for Health and Physical Education) related newsletters and journals and has given over 190 presentations at Kansas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD), SHAPE America - Central District and SHAPE America national workshops and conventions. He is the Past-President of both KAHPERD and SHAPE America - Central District and is the Past Co-Chair of the SHAPE America Student Services Committee. He also served two terms on the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Executive Board.

Scott is past Co-Editor for the KAHPERD Journal, past Chair of the SHAPE America Central District Recognition Awards, SHAPE America Bylaws & SHAPE America Recognition Awards Committees. He was on the KAHPERD Board for 28+ years and served for 17 years on the Executive Board as President and long term Parliamentarian. He is a certified Instructor for the National Archery in Schools (NASP) and National Fishing in Schools (NFSP) Programs.

Scott is also highly active in the Pittsburg community. He has 27+ years experience as a Hunter Education Instructor for the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Association. He served 10 years as President of the Crawford County AHA and as a member of the Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. He was an Academic All-American Baseball Player at Elon College (1975). Scott has coached college baseball at Western Carolina University (NC) and at Berry College (GA). He served nine years as the Pittsburg Post 64 American Legion General Manager and spent six years as Head Coach. He continues to use his baseball background to umpire youth baseball.
