May 25, 2011 12:00AM

Sen. Jerry Moran will be the keynote speaker for a Memorial Day observance at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30, at the Pittsburg State University Veterans Memorial. This year's observance will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War.

The event, planned by the Friends of the Memorial, will include music by the 312th Army Band Ensemble, bagpiper Joel Wren, the Tri-Statesmen Barbershop Chorus, and soloist Marsha Mausburger. The Miami, Okla., American Legion Post 147 will conduct a wreath-laying ceremony and PSU ROTC cadets will present the colors and fire a canon salute.

Brig. Gen. James AuBuchon will recognize Vietnam Veterans in attendance at the ceremony and will lead a dedication of new pavers to the memorial following the formal ceremony.

The PSU Veterans Memorial is located at Ford and Rouse streets in Pittsburg and is open to the public daily.
