The Pittsburg State University Jazz Ensembles will present a free concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, in Pittsburg's Memorial Auditorium. The PSU Jazz Ensembles will be joined for the concert by the 2010 KMEA District II Jazz Band, which is composed of selected high school students from Southeast Kansas high schools.
PSU Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Bob Kehle, will feature Dr. Joanne Britz, a member of the PSU Music Department faculty, on clarinet for a performance of Artie Shaw's Clarinet Concerto. The ensemble will feature PSU student Will Koehler on the trumpet in a performance of Bill Armstrong's "Aim for the Heart."
PSU Jazz Ensemble II is under the direction of Dr. Todd Hastings. Student Aaron Shockley will direct the ensemble for two if its seven songs.
The KMEA District II Jazz Band will be directed by Dr. Gary Ziek, director of bands at Emporia State University.
