"
I don't think there is a more important skill to learn than reading. "
~ President Steve Scott
burg State University President Steve Scott sat down with 17 preschoolers on Nov. 16 to read a book about vegetables. In honor of Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week, Dr. Scott read "Up Down and Around" by Katherine Ayers to students in the PSU Preschool.

The theme for the 2010 Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week was on food, nutrition and where our food comes from, which is why "Up, Down and Around" was the statewide book selection. Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week is sponsored by the State Library of Kansas and the Kansas Center for the Book. Kansas First Lady Stacy Parkinson is the honorary chairperson for the event.

"I don't think there is a more important skill to learn than reading," Scott said. "I'm very excited to be part of an activity that not only encourages children to read, but also encourages adults to spend time reading to children."
