Lambda Pi Eta, the communication studies honor society at Pittsburg State University, will present a workshop and evening of entertainment this Saturday at PSU's Wilkinson Alumni Center.
Dr. Valerie V. Peterson, a communication studies educator, will deliver a day-long workshop covering various topics on communication. Sessions will include the differences between visual and verbal communication, metaphors and how they shape our thoughts, and how sexuality relates to communication and ethical decision making.
Peterson, who teaches courses in visual communication, communication perspectives, critical interpretation and public speaking, has been published in a number of scholarly journals over the past 14 years. She has a Ph.D. in communication studies and rhetoric from the University of Iowa, where her dissertation focused on the controversial issue of "sex texts."
That evening at 5:30 p.m., the 3rd annual Gorillas Go Hollywood Talent Show will also be sponsored by the organization. The variety show includes musical performances, dancing and more, and is open to the public. Adults are $10. PSU students, faculty and staff, and children under 12 are free.
