Formerly called The Learning Center, the Center for Student Accommodations provides support services to bright, highly motivated students with Learning Disabilities or Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders who realize they can succeed with hard work and the appropriate supervision. Students are welcome to explore the possibilities of their education potential at Pittsburg State University.

Pittsburg State University has a commitment to provide appropriate educational services to all students. We work hard to meet the needs of all students with identified learning disabilities or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders.

Our purpose is to assist identified students at PSU in understanding and preparing assignments, as well as understanding and completing tests. We do provide a minimum amount of tutoring; however we anticipate that those services can be provided by the respective departments because our expertise is limited in the specific content areas. The key to our services is assistance. We do not provide content, information, or answers that do not reflect the knowledge obtained by the student.

The specific type of service is determined on an individual basis. We attempt to match the student with the appropriate service. The following is a list of some of the services provided by The Center for Student Accommodations:

  • Read multiple choice and true-false tests verbatim.
  • Read and explain what is being asked on short answer or essay tests.
  • Read and define words on a test (if appropriate, depending on nature of the test).
  • Write or type responses provided by the student on short answer or essay tests.

2. Provide assistance to students in understanding and completing assignments.

  • Read and explain the assignment to the student.
  • Help the student understand his/her class notes.
  • Write or type responses provided by the student.

3. Provide study skill strategies.

4. Direct students to appropriate university support services.
