Pittsburg State University will honor all veterans at a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Linda and Lee Scott Performance Hall of the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Jay O’Ferrell, a second grade teacher at Pittsburg’s Meadowlark Elementary School, who served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1997 until 2013. O’Ferrell was deployed seven times. Six of those were for state emergency responses and one was for Operation Iraqi Freedom II and Operation Iraqi Freedom III.
“Lessons of Service,” the theme for the annual Veterans Day observance at PSU, reflects the fact that the event involves all sixth graders in Pittsburg. Music for the observance will be provided by the Pittsburg Middle School Eighth Grade Choir.
The PSU ROTC Gorilla Battalion will also play a role with presentations of the Fallen Soldier Memorial and the POW/MIA display. PSU President Steve Scott will talk about “What the memorial teaches us.”
