Pittsburg State University President Steve Scott will begin a week-long campus observance of Earth Week on Monday, April 23, with the signing of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. President Scott will sign the document on the north side of the University Lake and will talk about some of the university’s recent and planned efforts to become a more environmentally responsible campus.
Throughout the week, groups have planned a variety of events and programs:
Monday, April 23
10:30 a.m. - Climate Commitment signing ceremony, University Lake
11 a.m.-1 p.m. - “Eat Dirt” in compostable containers, Oval (Sponsored by SAC)
3-4 p.m. - Campus Sustainability Forum with President Scott, 109 Grubbs Hall
7 p.m. - SAC Treat Night at the Movies, “We Bought a Zoo,” 107 Grubbs Hall. Special appearance by a Nature Reach critter before the movie.
Tuesday, April 24
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - RHA Oval Time: blind taste testing of organic vs. non-organic foods, guess the composting time of various products. Oval.
Wednesday, April 25
Noon-1 p.m. - Nature Reach Raptor Program, Crimson and Gold Ballroom, Student Center.
Thursday, April 26
10 a.m.-1 p.m. - Trash sorting on the Oval.
Friday, April 27
7 p.m. - Outdoor movie, “Happy Feet 2,” on the Jungletron, Stadium.
Saturday, April 28
9 a.m. - Bike Ride for Nature Reach, sponsored by Nature Reach and International Student Assoc., Gorilla Village. $10 registration.
