The New York Woodwind Quintet, one of the oldest and most celebrated ensembles of its type, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, in McCray Hall’s Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall on the Pittsburg State University campus. The performance is part of the PSU Solo & Chamber Music Series.
Now in its seventh decade, the New York Woodwind Quintet maintains an active performance schedule in the United States and abroad while also teaching the next generation of woodwind performers.
Members of the quintet are Carol Wincenc, flute; Stephen Taylor, oboe; Charles Neidich, clarinet; Marc Goldberg, bassoon; and William Purvis, horn. For their Pittsburg performance, the quintet has prepared a program that includes music of Paul Hindemith, Pavel Haas, and Felix Mendelssohn.
The quintet’s numerous recordings for labels such as Boston Skyline, Bridge, New World Records, and Nonesuch, include their just-released “Schoenberg's Wind Quintet” on the Naxos label.
Tickets for the concert are $12 for the general public and $8 for persons over 65 or under 18. Full-time PSU students are entitled to a free ticket. Tickets are available in advance at the University Ticket Office, 1701 S. Homer, 620-235-4796, www.pittstate.edu/tickets, or at the door prior to the performance.
