Customized Short-Term English Programs

Are you looking for a short-term study abroad experience in the U.S.? Do you want to improve your English language skills and learn about American culture?

The Intensive English Program offers customized short-term language and culture programs. Participants will attend English classes, social activities, and cultural field trips. In addition, participants will stay on campus in the university dormitories and can enjoy all the campus amenities.

This is a non-credit recreational English program.

Registration

  1. Complete the registration form

  2. Pay the full program deposit (instructions will be provided)

  3. Submit a copy of your passport to i-admit@pittstate.edu

  • Participants may join the program on a B-2 (tourist) visa.

This is a non-credit, non-academic, recreational English and cultural program. 

No application fee! No TOEFL required!

Program Fee Deposit: Registration is not complete until the full deposit is paid and must be paid by the registration deadline. Payment can be paid by check (bank draft) by mail or by wire transfer (participant is responsible for paying any processing fees for the wire transfer). Deposit will be refunded if the participant is denied a visa (written proof required). 

Cancellation Fee: There is a $200 cancellation fee.

Once the registration form is received, PSU will issue an invoice to the participant for the program fee deposit. 

Once the deposit is received, PSU will issue the invitation letter for the applicant to apply for the B-2 visitor visa. 

To be eligible, participants must be at least 18 years old or have graduated high school before the start of this program. If the participant is under the age of 18, participant must have a parent or adult guardian accompany the participant. 

Participants must have at least a low-intermediate (basic) knowledge of the English language.

Proof of health insurance is required. 

Seats for this program are limited. Early registration is recommended.

The Language and Culture Short Term English Program is not the Intensive English Program and cannot be used for admission into an academic program. 

Option 1

June or July: 3-week Language & Culture Session

Dates: TBD

Cost: $2,700 (Group discounts are available)

Includes: English classes, books, on-campus housing, breakfast and lunch, health insurance and cultural activities. 

Must have a minimum of 10 participants.

Option 2

4-week or 8-week Session 

Dates: January, March, June, July, August, October

Cost: IEP Tuition prorated by the number of weeks

We will allow students to study part-time for 4 or 8 weeks in the Intermediate Level of the Intensive English Program. Students will need to have a basic to intermediate knowledge of English.

We can develop a customized short-term program for groups of students or professionals. Please contact us with the proposed number of participants, the proposed dates and duration, proposed budget, and any special focus or emphasis (such as Technology, Business, Science/STEM, Music, Teaching/ESOL, Leadership). Must have a minimum of 10 participants. What's Included?

The Language and Culture Short-Term English Programs are held on the beautiful and safe campus of Pittsburg State University. The goal is to enhance your learning of English as a second language in a total immersion of both language and culture. The fun and friendly staff make this a great opportunity to improve your English language skills, experience American culture, and make friends from all over the world! 

Here are samples of some typical items that are included (depending on the program): 

  • Up to 17 hours of English classes per week
  • Workshops on various topics (Technology, Business, Science/STEM, Music, Teaching/ESOL, Leadership, etc.)

  • Excursions (Silver Dollar City amusement park, Kansas City Royals baseball game, etc.)
