Jumpstart English is a course designed for adult English learners in the community who have had little formal English study. Topics are presented in the context of everyday situations and include self, school, family, home, jobs, and community. This is a non-credit, recreational English course.

The goal of the course is for participants to become comfortable speaking, reading, and writing about their lives using basic English grammar and phrases. The grammar covered in the course includes tenses (simple present, present continuous, simple past, and future) for statements and questions, as well as count and noncount nouns, comparative adjectives, and basic preposition usage.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of participation. 

The 8-week courses will be held 2 hours per day Monday to Friday (times may vary). Classes will be held on the campus of Pittsburg State University. 

The program fee is $500 per class per session and must be paid at the time of registration. Students will also need to purchase their own textbooks and supplies.

All adult learners are welcome. Participants must be at least 18 years old or older. 

The program fee must be paid prior to the start of class. Payment can be made in the form of cash or check and can be paid in 118 Whitesitt Hall.
