Mission Statement
The mission of the Student Health Service is to provide quality health care that is accessible, affordable, culturally sensitive and student-focused. The Student Health Services supports the academic success of our students with supportive health education promoting lifelong health and well-being.
Location
The Health Center is located on Joplin Street south of the Brandenburg Field/ Carnie Smith Stadium.

Emergency or After Hours
Students who become sick or injured when the Health Center is closed and feel they cannot wait until it reopens should seek medical treatment at either Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center Emergency Department, 1102 Centennial Drive, (620) 231-6100; or SEK Urgent Care, 200 E. Centennial Suites, (620) 232-8003. For emergency transportation, students should dial 911.
*ALL expenses related to emergency and after hour care is the responsibility of the student.
Staff
Medical Director:
Dr. Donald Holsinger, M.D, FACP
Dr. Holsinger received his undergraduate BA Degree from Pittsburg State University prior to graduating from University of Kansas School of Medicine, 1964 with his medical degree. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine and is a fellow in the American College of Physicians (FACP). Prior to his employment at Pittsburg State University, Dr. Holsinger served the Pittsburg community for 33 years through his private practice in Internal Medicine, and recently served as Chief Medical Officer and Vice-President for Medical Affairs at Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg, Kansas
Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistants:
Vicki Parris, PA-C
Ms. Parris received her Physician Assistant degree from Wichita State University in 1995, with an emphasis in primary health care services. Prior to 1995, Ms. Parris worked as a registered Medical Technologist receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from PSU in 1976.
Carrie Farrington, ARNP
Ms. Farrington received her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing with specialty in Family Nurse Practitioner from Pittsburg State University in 2004. She received her Bachelor Degree of Nursing from PSU in 1998. Previous working experience includes primary care, surgery, and nephrology.
Amy Hite, ARNP
Ms. Hite received her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing with specialty in Family Nurse Practitioner from Pittsburg State University in 2000. She received her Bachelor Degree of Nursing from PSU in 1996. Her area of specialty includes orthopedics and primary care.
Operations Director:
Rita Girth R.N.
Recently promoted to Operations Director after serving as an Assistant Director/Nursing Manager. Ms Girth received her nursing degree in 1984, has been employed at PSU Student Health Services for more than 15 years. Prior to working at PSU, Rita was employed for 10 years at Mt. Carmel Medical Center as a staff nurse with an emphasis in critical care. |
