International Interior Design Association: IIDA
PSU Campus Center
International Interior Design Association: IIDA
In the Fall Semester of 1998, the interior design student organization affiliated with iida, the International Interior Design Association, and formed a multidisciplinary 'campus center' for all students in the related fields of design and construction. The PSU campus center is affiliated with the Mid-America chapter of iida, currently located in Kansas City.
Do you want connections with today’s top design firms and a link to career opportunities? Think discounts to design stores and magazines sounds appealing? How about two free magazines a year about up-and-coming design trends? Or what about opportunities to take tours of homes, businesses, and chances to enter contests? Maybe you’re just looking for a way to make new friends in your field and have a good time? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then International Interior Design Association is for you!
Approximately 20 students belong to the IIDA chapter at Pitt State, where they strive to meet the mission of the National chapter, to be “committed to enhancing the quality of life through excellence in interior design and advancing interior design through knowledge. IIDA advocates for interior design excellence; provides superior industry information; nurtures a global interior design community; maintains educational standards; and responds to trends in business and design.”
Pitt State IIDA has participated in many activities in the past, including: mask design competitions for scholarship money, Kansas City Tour of Homes, individual home tours, NeoCon conferences (2004 conference was held in Chicago, Illinois), vendor fairs in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and opportunities to travel overseas to experience international architecture. On a more local level, IIDA participates in homecoming festivities, Relay for Life, and other community events. Speakers are invited to speak to interior design students about trends in the field. We hold fundraisers to help cover speaker costs and trips; past fund-raisers include: candle sales, butter braid sales, and Pampered Chef and Mary Kay shows. Anticipated activities for 2005 include: various speakers, Kansas City Tour of Homes, Mini NeoCon in KC, IIDA chair race in Kansas City, Relay for Life, and the production of a design tips and hints book compiled by IIDA members.
IIDA currently holds meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 4:00 PM in
Room 212 of the FCS building. Meetings are conducted by President LaShae Stinson.
Feel free to sit in on a meeting, enjoy some refreshments, and learn more about IIDA!
