Learning Together: Girl Scouts Learn from Pitt State Students

Students in Dr. Gorman's Camping and Outdoor Education class recently helped with the Girl Scouts Friendship Fields Camp in Pittsburg.  Pitt State students assisted campers with archery and other outdoor activities.  This is a longstanding tradition between Pitt State and the Girl Scouts. The Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation (HHPR) is located in the Student Recreation Center and has a faculty composed of members possessing a wide-array of specializations.  The department offers undergraduate degree programs in Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Recreation as well as an online graduate program in HHPR. 

Within each degree programs are emphases/concentration areas from which students select the professional paths best fitting their needs.  The department also participates in the Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP).

PSU Therapeutic Recreation students got a hands-on lesson in "goalball".  Goalball is a game for the blind or those with limited sight and is played in the Paralympics.  Click here for the full story.

Pittsburg State University's Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation Programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks,    Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT). The Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT) accredits baccalaureate programs in parks, recreation, tourism, sport management, event management, therapeutic recreation, and leisure studies offered at regionally accredited institutions within the United States and its territories, and at nationally accredited institutions in Canada, and Mexico.
