The world's best Baja SAE teams compete for the Kansas Baja SAE Championship in this multi-day competition that simulates real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain.

100 teams from five countries will put their skills to the test in what has become one of Pittsburg State University's most anticipated competitions. Teams compete against one another to have their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test, promote, and compete with their vehicle ... but to do so within the limits of Baja SAE rules.

All vehicles are powered by a ten-horsepower Intek Model 20 engine. The use of the same engine, without modification, by all teams creates a more challenging design.

The most popular spectator events at this event are:

  • Baja's on Broadway -- The City of Pittsburg shuts down it's main street to allow teams to display their cars in a festival-like atmosphere filled with live music, local food and fans from throughout the region. (Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m.)
  • Dynamic Events -- Teams put their cars in action for the first time in a series of events design to test braking, acceleration, maneuverability, suspension and power through a true sled-pull. (Saturday, May 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m.)
  • Endurance Race -- The most grueling and fan-favorite event of the competition. Teams race for four straight hours on one of the most difficult tracks in the nation. Every inch of every car will be put to the test. It's the ultimate test of teamwork. (Sunday, May 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m.)

The Dynamic and Endurance events will be livestreamed on
