Black snakes and nesting birds: how studying snakes can inform bird conservation
Nest predation is one of the leading causes of bird mortality. And in the Midwest, snakes are among the biggest culprits – especially western ratsnakes. Despite the risk of becoming a snake’s next meal, some birds have better odds than others. Andy will present his research on western ratsnakes, and the factors that bring them into contact with nesting birds.
