Students for Violence Prevention in coordination with Safehouse Crisis Center will "Shatter the Silence of Domestic Violence" on Thursday October 19th at 7:00pm in the University Club of the Overman Student Center. We encourage attendees to wear purple, the awareness color for domestic violence. October is domestic violence awareness month and 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some sort of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime. In college, 1 in 3 dating college women and 1 in 6 college dating men have been in an abusive relationship. Half of college students know someone who has been in an abusive relationship. This event will provide an opportunity for our campus and community to come together to honor those who have lost their lives, offer support to survivors of abuse and take a stand against domestic violence.
Music will be performed along with a speaker.
