This program is the perfect choice for students whose career plans are to work in insurance or collision repair positions. An emphasis area within our 4-year Automotive Technology program, the Collision Repair and Insurance Management program focuses on this 10 billion/year sector of the automotive industry.
Pittsburg State is one of only approximately 10 colleges and universities in the nation to offer a 4-year degree in automotive technology. In fact, this program is considered by industry to be one of the top 3 of its kind in the country. No other university in the United States offers a bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology with a focused area of study in the insurance industry.
Students learn in classes that are purposefully kept small (average size is 20); guaranteeing a “hands-on” experience with some of the nation’s most accomplished professors. Our automotive laboratories encompass 32,000 square-feet of space and are among the most advanced in the nation. Thanks to our partners in industry, students have the opportunity to work on more than 40 donated automobiles and use the same tools and technology currently being used in the workplace. In fact, students do not need to bring or purchase their own tools.
Students are able to choose from a variety of emphasis areas. Each option consists of approximately 18 credit hours. In most cases, students will take 2 years of general education classes and 2 years of technical classes.
Students who choose the Service Management and Marketing option can easily earn a minor in Business Administration with the addition of two classes (FIN 326 Business Finance and ACCTG 201 Financial Accounting).
