Stephen Horner


About

Dr. Stephen V. Horner is an Associate Professor of Management at Pittsburg State University teaching courses in strategic management. Dr. Horner has been teaching college business and management courses for over twenty years. Prior to his graduate studies, he served as an assistant professor in the Department of Economics/Business at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, after working in the private sector in a variety of industries, including food processing, management services, and sales. In addition, he has taught courses at Kansas State University-Salina College of Technology and Aviation and at McPherson College. He came to university teaching seeking a more fulfilling application of his talents and passions and finds interaction with students a lifelong learning process. 

Dr. Horner received his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri (2006), his MBA (1991) and his BA in Political Science (1975) from Emporia State University and completed post-graduate work at Wichita State University (1994). His research in corporate governance has focused on the impact of boards of directors on firm strategic outcomes including post-acquisition performance and CEO turnover and succession. Current empirical work examines the role of the board’s human capital in affecting firm innovation. His research appears in several academic publications including the Journal of Leadership, Accountability, and Ethics, the Academy of Strategic Management Journal, Global Review of Business and Economic Research, and the Journal of Applied Business and Economics. He is a member of the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, Southern Management Association, and Southwest Academy of Management, for which he served as officer and member of the board for more than five years. 

He lives in Pittsburg with his wife, Sue, and two cats and enjoys the outdoors, live music, and great food.
