International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for Graduate School Policy

Purpose: To ensure non-native English-speaking applicants possess the necessary language proficiency to succeed in rigorous academic environments.

Applies to: Non-English speaking graduate school applicants.

Policy:

PSU will accept the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in place of TOEFL to meet the language requirement for International students. The following shows the score equivalencies that will be used:

TOEFL IELTS AMENDED Overall IELTS (05-07-08)
68/520 5.5 6.0
79/550 6.0 6.5

 

Band Scores

A minimum required score for the IELTS is an overall band score of 6.0 with no band scores below 5.0. For programs which require an internet-based TOEFL score higher than 68, a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no band score below 5.5 is required.
