Music lovers will have a rare opportunity to hear one of the world's most celebrated choral ensembles when the Vienna Boys Choir performs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
The concert is part of the ongoing Solo & Chamber Music Series hosted by the Pittsburg State University Music Department.
For six centuries, the Vienna Boys Choir has delighted audiences around the globe with its purity of tone, distinctive charm, and diverse repertoire spanning medieval, classical, contemporary, and experimental music.
The ensemble's gifted young singers are part of four touring choirs whose members represent dozens of nations. Together, the choirs present more than 300 concerts each year for audiences around the world.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and community members to experience choral singing of exceptional quality. The fact that it will be delivered by boys between the ages of 10 and 14 makes it truly remarkable,” said Professor Susan Marchant, director of choral activities at Pitt State.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has praised the ensemble, writing, "There's no more gratifying sound than that of children singing. And there's no more polished ensemble of children's voices than the Vienna Boys Choir."
The Solo & Chamber Music Series will continue through the academic year with performances by Kenneth Broberg, pianist, on Nov. 13; Alec Holcomb, guitarist, on Feb. 12; Zeza Trio on April 2; and Eighth Blackbird on April 23.
