Pittsburg State received a $10,000 Academic Alliance Grant, part of a global funding initiative that supports the future of the internal audit profession, to support student engagement and educator development.
Funds will be used to provide students with opportunities to hear professional guest speakers, and to send four students to the The Institute of Internal Auditors Global Student Conference in Orlando, Florida, in April.
Funds also will provide faculty with opportunities to participate in IIA-sponsored conferences and continuing professional education events to stay up to date with the internal auditing profession, and to earn continuing education hours to meet certification requirements. They, too, will have the opportunity to attend the global conference in Orlando to learn and network.
“This grant strengthens our abilty to prepare students for successful careers in internal auditing and underscores our commitment to academic excellence in this critical field,” said Associate Professor Gail Yarick. "We are honored to have been chosen for it.”
At Pitt State, the curriculum for an accounting degree features coursework in financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, auditing, and business law. Graduates are employed in a variety of industries including government, finance, healthcare, and more. Two student organizations — the Student Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter — offer opportunities to network with management accounting professionals, access resources, and develop skills for a future career.
