University begins search for vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management

Pittsburg State University has begun a national search for a vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, a new role that encompasses many of the responsibilities handled by Vice President of Student Life Steve Erwin, who announced retirement starting June 2023.

The role expands to include Admission and Student Success, and now reports to Executive Vice President and Provost Howard Smith. This brings the entire academic and co-curricular student experience into a single division.

“This enables us to create a seamless experience for our students,” said President Dan Shipp. “Reducing silos means our teams can more easily work together on strategic priorities that serve the whole student from enrollment to graduation and beyond.”

The vice president provide leadership for all units and departments in Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, including the Student Success Center, Admission and Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Services, and International Programs and Services.

The search process will be facilitated by a committee of campus stakeholder leaders and representatives, as well as a representative of the Kansas Board of Regents staff. Jaime Dalton, executive director of University Affairs, and David Hurford, chair of Psychology & Counseling, have been selected to serve as co-chairs of the search committee.

Members of the committee are Melinda Roelfs, registrar; Aaron Hurt, director of International Programs and Services; Eva Sager, associate director of Campus Activities; Deatrea Rose, associate vice president of Inclusion and Belonging; Becky McDaniel, associate vice president of University Advancement; Barbara Winter, director of Budget; Diane Letner, human resources specialist; and Hannah Eckstein, a student and vice president of Student Government Association.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join a team focused on the many characteristics of today’s students,” said Executive Vice-President and Provost Howard Smith.

With a May 15 deadline for submitting applications, the committee will begin its preliminary work this month. The selection of the new vice president is anticipated to occur in July.
