About
Master Sergeant Anthony Houston was born in Louisville, KY, and raised in Maryland. He enlisted in the Army in 2004, volunteering for airborne duty and the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment. He was assigned to Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in September of 2004 and immediately deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While assigned to 3rd Ranger Battalion, he deployed seven more times, three more to Afghanistan and four times to Iraq, serving in every position from riflemen to Weapons Squad Leader. In 2010, Master Sergeant Houston volunteered to serve as an instructor in the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program I (RASP I) for incoming junior enlisted soldiers. He served there for three years and volunteered again to be a Ranger Instructor at the Benning Phase of Ranger School from 2013-2017. Here he taught squad level tactics to soldiers attending the Ranger Course. In 2017, Master Sergeant Houston PCS’d to Fort Campbell, KY where he served as a platoon sergeant and a First Sergeant in 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
Assignments
Master Sergeant Houston’s assignments include Machine Gun Team Leader, Fire Team Leader, Rifle Squad Leader, and Weapon Squad Leader while assigned to C Co, 3rd Ranger Battalion from 2004-2010. He then served from 2010-2013 as a marksmanship instructor and Platoon Sergeant for the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program I (RASP I). In late 2013, he transitioned to C Company, 4th Ranger Training Battalion to serve as a Ranger Instructor and Tactical Advisor to the Commander. In 2017, Master Sergeant Houston moved to Fort Campbell, KY where he served as a Platoon Sergeant and First Sergeant in 1st Battalion, 502D Infantry Regiment. He was selected by the 2nd Brigade Command Team to take responsibility of C Troop, 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, the brigades Dismounted Reconnaissance Troop in 2019. After a short time there, he was again selected by the Brigade Command Team to serve as the First Sergeant for the Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company until April 2021. Most recently, Master Sergeant Houston serves as the Senior Military Science Instructor for Pittsburg State University ROTC.
Education
Master Sergeant Houston is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. His military education includes: the Ranger Indoctrination Program, the US Army Ranger Course, the Airborne Course, the Pathfinder Course, Air Assault School, Warrior Leader Course (WLC), Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Master Leader Course, Army Basic Instructor Course (ABIC), Master Driver Course, and the Squad Designated Marksman/Close Quarters Marksmanship Course.
