Assistant Professor

Position Description

The School of Construction at Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a full-time nine month tenure track position to support our ETAC-ABET Construction Engineering Technology program and our ASAC-ABET Construction Management program. The School of Construction consists of 50+ Construction Engineering Technology majors, 350+ Construction Management majors, 50+ Environmental and Safety majors, and 40+ Interior Design majors with 18 faculty. We also support Masters degrees in Engineering Technology and Technology. The anticipated starting date is August 12, 2019.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be committed to be part of a progressive team-oriented environment in construction management and construction engineering technology programs with an emphasis on teaching (9-12 hours/semester), student recruitment/retention and industry engagement.  Successful  candidates are expected to: 1) assist with advisement, 2) assist with recruitment, 3) assist with student organizations, 4) be active in professional organizations, 5) pursue scholarly / grant / private funding / applied research activities, 6) assist with appropriate construction related workshop/seminar activities. Primary teaching assignments will focus on construction methods, construction management, a capstone course and possible graduate courses. Current computer competency is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree (BS) in Construction/Civil/Architecture  (engineering, eng. technology, management, science, etc.) or a closely related area required.
  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Management or closely related area required for tenure position. Consideration will be given to exceptional candidates without a Masters degree (with an initial appointment at Instructor).
  • A minimum of five (5) years construction/engineering/architecture or closely related experience required. We are seeking applicants with actual documentable construction related experience not just consulting experience.
  • Professional certifications preferred.
  • Record of professional society (AGC, NAHB, AIC, ASCE, ASEE, ACI, etc.) engagement/involvement preferred.
  • University or college teaching experience preferred.
