Responsibilities

The Area Coordinator position is responsible for the supervision of 2 residence halls with a population of approximately 400 students. Area Coordinator supervises 1 Assistant Residence Hall Director (3rd year RAs) who oversee residence halls, as well as 11 to 13 Resident Assistants. The primary function is to direct and oversee the operations of the residence halls including: staffing, student development, training and education, administrative and managerial responsibilities, facilities management, and professional development.  Assist with RA selection. Area coordinators serve in the central housing office and fill collateral assignments when requested and participate on an on call duty rotation.

The Area Coordinator's major function is to assist students in their total development.  Area Coordinators must be committed to student development and capable of responding in a positive manner to a wide variety of situations.  Area Coordinators are expected to carry out their responsibilities in a manner that will further individual student responsibility and promote self-discipline within the residence hall community.

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters degree in higher education administration/counseling or related field.
  • Previous residence hall and supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programmatic and supervisory experience and demonstrated student organizational leadership experience.
  • Previous residence hall judicial experience.
  • Knowledge of human and student development, group dynamics, personal computer proficiency, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional Information

Compensation includes a furnished apartment and board plan when food service is in operation. Apartment includes free utilities, local phone, voice mail, WiFi and cable television service. Spouse and/or legal dependents may reside with the Area Coordinators. Pet policy for Area Coordinators allows for one cat or one dog (see Pet Policy & Agreement for specific information). Meal plans are available for spouse and/or legal dependents. Benefits offered to all PSU employees include Medical and Dental Insurance, Federal Social Security, Group Life Insurance, Group Disability Insurance, Retirement Plan, paid vacation and sick leave. Area Coordinators receive In-State tuition benefits and reduced tuition (staff rate).
