Pitt State invites community participation in upcoming events  

Pittsburg State University is gearing up for five events this fall that will bring together the campus and the community. Don’t miss out — registration is required.  

Community Fair

Community Fair  

Registration opens Monday, July 6 for the annual Community Fair, an event that helps students learn more about services, organizations, and businesses in the Pittsburg area.  

The fair will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 in Cleveland Plaza west of the Overman Student Center. No sales may occur during the event, but businesses and organizations are welcome to hand out coupons, prizes, and samples.

Car’Rilla Fest Car Show  

Calling all car enthusiasts! On Saturday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon, Car’Rilla Fest is coming back for a third year to raise money for student scholarships in the Health, Human Performance, and Recreation Department.   

It will be held in the parking lot of the Student Recreation Center at 2001 S. Rouse Street and will feature food trucks and other partners.   

Registration is $20 for each division: motorcycles, cars, and trucks. Registrations will remain open until 10 a.m. the day of the event.   

Hosted by the HHPR Club and HHPR Department, registration fees and donations from this event go straight to students. Last year’s event featured nearly 30 vehicles and raised enough for a scholarship of almost $1,000.

Part-Time Job Fair  

Pitt State Career Services will host the Part-Time Job Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the Overman Student Center.  

The fair connects students with local employers who are offering flexible, part-time or temporary positions in the Pittsburg area.   

Registration is free and is open until Aug. 16. Register at pittstate.edu/parttimejobfair.

Paint the Town Red  

Hosted by the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Pitt State Alumni & Constituent Relations, registration is now open for the Paint the Town Red Decorating Contest and the Paint the Town Red Block Party & Pep Rally to kick off the Gorilla football season.  

This year's theme is "Gus Through the Decades," inspired by Pittsburg's 150th birthday.  

The PTTR Block Party & Pep Rally will be held on Broadway between Fourth and Sixth streets from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26. It will feature music, games, food, a kids’ fun run with Gus the Gorilla, the Pride of the Plains Marching Band, and Pitt State dance and athletics teams. 

The decorating contest will be held in the week leading up to the pep rally. Deadlines: 

  • T-Shirt Design Contest Deadline: July 16 
  • Vendor Registration Deadline: August 12 
  • Business Decorating Contest Deadline: August 19

Homecoming parade

Homecoming Parade  

Registration will open at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24 for area organizations, businesses, and other groups who want to be part of the annual PSU Homecoming Parade. Registration will close at noon on Friday, Oct. 9. Marching bands should register separately through the Music Department at 

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Oct. 17. Directed by the Pitt State Homecoming Committee, it begins at 11th Street and continues south to Second Street.   

Entry is free for all non-profits. For-profit entries must pay a registration fee.  

This year’s theme: “Gorillas Go West.”
