Pitt State ushers in holiday season with performances 

Immerse yourself in the sounds of the season at these upcoming holiday music opportunities by the Music Department at Pittsburg State University! 

Christmas Parade  

Monday, Dec. 1 | 6:30 p.m. | Downtown Broadway  

The Pitt State Pride of the Plains Marching Band will bring their signature energy, sound, and holiday sweaters to the 45th Annual Pittsburg Christmas Parade. They’ll play their way down Broadway from Tenth Street to First Street starting at 6:30 p.m. 

Community members, floats, dancers, vehicles, and Santa also will be featured. 

Holly Jolly Tubas 

Tuesday, Dec. 2 | 7 p.m. | Bicknell Family Center for the Arts 

Get into the holiday spirit with Holly Jolly Tubas, a free festive performance by area brass musicians including tuba, euphonium, and trombone players. This lively recital promises seasonal favorites and cheerful tunes perfect for all ages. Alumni and community members are welcome to participate! Rehearsal will begin at 5:30 p.m. Reserve your spot or learn more by emailing Director Jobey Wilson at joseph.r.wilson@pittstate.edu or calling 620-235-4070. For participating musicians, a $10 fee, payable in cash or check at the event, includes music and a snack. 

Choir Holiday Luncheon 

Wednesday, Dec. 3 | 11:30 a.m. | Overman Student Center 

The ever-popular Holiday Luncheon returns to campus, offering a festive celebration for the whole community. Guests will enjoy a holiday buffet and dessert while listening to seasonal music performed by university choral ensembles. This event supports the choir’s touring program. The ticket price of $21 includes a small donation to help fund this program.

Southeast Kansas Symphony Holiday Concert  

Thursday, Dec. 4 | 7 p.m. | Bicknell Student Center for the Arts 

Embrace the magic of the season with the Southeast Kansas Symphony's annual holiday program, which this year includes selections from The Nutcracker accompanied by the Pittsburg Ballet. Vocalists will include Dr. Grace Steiner and Sara Flessner, and a very special guest conductor will lead the popular holiday favorite, “Sleigh Ride.”  

At the door: 

General admission: $12 
Ages 17 and under / 65+: $8 
Free for Pittsburg State students and current or retired university employees

General admission: $10 
Ages 13–17 / 65+: $6 
Free for children 12 and under, PSU students, and current or retired university employees 
Group tickets (10 or more, advance purchase only): $5 per person

Timmons Chapel Concert

For more than 50 years, the annual concert at historic Timmons Chapel has signaled that the holidays are just around the corner. Attendees will enjoy a cozy evening of seasonal music. Seating is limited. 

KMEA District Choir, Band, and Orchestra 

Saturday, Dec. 6 | 4:30 p.m. | Bicknell Family Center for the Arts 

Pittsburg State University will host the KMEA District Band, Orchestra, and Choir, bringing together talented student musicians from across the region. Admission (cash only): Adults $5, students K-12 $1.
