Pitt State offers a month of collaborative music 

The Pittsburg State University Department of Music invites the campus and community to enjoy a full lineup of performances this October. From international ensembles to student work, this month-long celebration highlights the diversity of music from around the world.  

Trio Latinamericano  

Tuesday, Oct. 8 | 7:30-8:30 p.m. | McCray Hall 

This concert will feature a talented ensemble of performers from Paraguay, made possible through grant support, offering audiences an authentic taste of Latin American History.  

This musical experience is part of a month-long Hispanic Music Festival on campus and in the community. 

Music Across Borders  

Tuesday, Oct. 15 | 7-8:30 p.m. | Bicknell Family Center for the Arts 

Music Across Borders unites nearly 200 performers from three musical organizations for an evening of collaboration:  

  • The Pittsburg Multigenerational Chorus, directed by Susan Laushman 
  • Jopara, directed by Assistant Professor Ramiro Miranda 
  • The Pittsburg Hispanic Banda, directed by Isaac Hernandez, adjunct lecturer 

All three directors are graduates of the Music Department. 

SEK Symphony  

Saturday, Oct. 19 | 3 p.m.| Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall 

The Southeast Kansas Symphony, under the direction of Assistant Professor Ramiro Miranda, celebrates Hispanic Heritage through a selection of classical and pop, designed for an audience of all ages, in “Danzas Latinas.” 

Jazz Ensemble 

Tuesday, Oct. 22 | 7-8 p.m. | Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall 

The PSU Jazz Ensemble concert will feature tributes to Chuck Mangione and Stan Kenton, along with other favorite jazz standards. The ensemble is directed by Professor Todd Hastings. 

Solo & Chamber Music Series: Peter Steiner & Constanze Hochwartner 

Thursday, Oct. 24 | 7:30 p.m. | McCray Hall, Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall 

The internationally acclaimed trombonist Peter Steiner returns to Pittsburg State University as part of a duo with organist Constanze Hochwartner. Known for their breathtaking performances, the pair has toured across Europe, Australia, Asia, and the U.S. 

With the university's Fisk organ fully engaged, the pair will perform unique and challenging works for trombone and organ.

  • Individual: $15 general | $10 over 65/under 18 
  • “Any four” package: $51 general | $34 over 65/under18 
  • Complete Season: $67 general | $45 over 65/under 18 
  • Group rates available for parties of 10 or more (please call a week in advance).

Octubafest  

Saturday, Oct. 26 | 7-8:15 p.m. | McCray Hall 

The PSU Low Brass studio, under the direction of Assistant Professor Jobey Wilson, presents Octubafest, a fun and free concert open to the entire campus and community.
