The Romm Family Trio will be the featured artists in The Midwest Trumpet Festival, with a public concert planned for 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 in McCray Hall at Pittsburg State University. Aimed at high school and university students from across the region, the long-running festival brings together leading performers, educators, community members, and students for master classes, recitals, and concerts.
Tickets for the public concert are on sale now at $10 per person at the PSU Ticket Office and may be purchased online, in person at 107 Weede Gymnasium, or at the door starting one hour prior to the show.
Ronald Romm is one of today’s pre-eminent trumpeters and clinicians. He attended The Juilliard School in New York, and for 30 years performed with the Canadian Brass, logging 4,500 concerts, 60 recordings, numerous television concert specials, videos, and hundreds of master classes. He has performed with major orchestras and has shared the stage with leading artists including Wynton Marsalis and Doc Severinsen. He is both a Warburton Signature Artist and a Yamaha Performing Artist.
Avis Romm also studied at Juilliard and is highly respected in the field of opera, having coached, directed, conducted and performed in hundreds of opera productions internationally. Much of her work was recorded for broadcast on television and radio, and she performs regularly with internationally renowned soloists. She is a Steinway Performing Artist.
Aaron Romm is the instructor of trumpet at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, and has served as the co-principal trumpet of Sarasota Orchestra. He also serves as a trumpet coach for band and orchestra programs in the Sarasota-Bradenton area, is co-founder of Romm Trumpet Academy, and is a Warburton Performing Artist and Clinician.
Under the direction of Professor of Music Todd Hastings, the festival sessions and recitals will be held at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts on Oct. 8-9. Classes range from “Beginning Jazz Improvisation” by David Cooper, to “The Four-Step Practicing Process” with Rich Rulli, to “Effortless Sound Production” by Doug Lindsey.
Group sessions will be held for junior and senior high school students, and for university students, as well as instruction on preparing for auditions.
