FCS Scholarship Information


Applying for on-campus FCS Scholarships

Each January and February students should apply for program scholarships. This is an easy process, but it is one most students do not take advantage of. Go to PSU Student Financial Assistance website page and follow the directions. You need to end up on the PSU application for scholarship website. Please read through the information provided to learn the steps of the process.

The scholarships awarded by the program include:

  • FCS-Gibson/Phi Upsilon Omicron Scholarship - for members of the FCS Honor Society
  • FCS-Alumni Scholarship, Mary Kern Martin Scholarship, FCS-Gibson Scholarship, FCS-Carrie Williams Scholarship, FCS-Gina Sharp Scholarship, FCS-Sue Hippensteel Scholarship, FCS-Educational Opportunity Scholarship, Anita K. Laurent Scholarship, William H. & June Stewart Munday Scholarship - these are for all FCS students.
  • Lynette J. Olson FCS Leadership Scholarship

AAFCS is offering scholarships for the upcoming academic year. The due date is early January each year. Check the AAFCS website for exact due date. There is an application in addition to meeting all scholarship requirements through the normal PSU process. Due Date is February 1st every year.

Scholarship applications are due by July 1 annually to be eligible. Must be enrolled full-time in one of the following programs: PSU - Family and Consumer Sciences or Family and Consumer Sciences Education or KSU - Early Childhood Education, Family Consumer Science Education, Human Development and Family Science.

Scholarship applications are available online at the Truman Heartland Community Foundation website. The link to the online posting and scholarship application is https://www.thcf.org/Grant-Scholarship-Seekers/Scholarships/Apply/Stand-Alone.

There will be at least three $1,000 scholarships given again this year. Applicants should be students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Family & Consumer Sciences and its knowledge-based areas: Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Dietetics, Nutrition, Health and Food Management, Human Development and Family Relations, Apparel Design, Textiles, and Merchandising, Housing and Development, Child Development, Consumer Economics and Resource Management, FCS Education Extension.

Applications must be submitted online and the deadline is April 1.

Undergraduate Student Eligibility:

  • Must be a current resident of Kansas or Missouri
  • Must be a junior or senior at an accredited college of university
  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in FCS or any of its knowledge-based areas
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours
  • Must have average or above-average scholastic standing

  1. Student must be accepted and enrolled in a major within the field of family and consumer sciences/human ecology at a baccalaureate granting institution in Kansas.
  2. Student must currently hold student membership in AAFCS or have submitted application for membership by the application deadline of February 15th.
  3. Deadline for application will be February 15th of each year for students who will have completed 60 credit hours by the end of the current spring semester. The scholarship amount is $500, payable the following fall. A receipt showing fall enrollment or official class schedule for the fall semester must be sent to the KAFCS treasurer for the scholarship award check to be issued.
  4. Each year one scholarship will be given to a Kansas State University student and one scholarship to a Pittsburg State University student. In the event no acceptable applications are received from KSU or PSU, two students from the same institution may be selected.

Digital Scholarship Application

Applicants must be Kansas residents who are going to be juniors, seniors, or graduate students enrolled at a college or university located in Kansas. Students must be majoring in nutrition, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, or a related subject. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application. Phi Upsilon Omicron, a national honor society in family and consumer sciences, offers scholarships, fellowships, and awards only to Phi Upsilon Omicron members. Application login information is available from the National Office. All scholarship applications must be submitted by February 1st. Go to https://phiu.org/scholarships for more information.

This memorial scholarship of $500 is offered for the purpose of fostering educational development of women.

Deadlines: October 1 and March 1
This scholarship is open to Child Development and Early Childhood Unified majors with awards expected to be at or above $7,000 per semester. See scholarship information for details.
