September 28, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Presented By: PSU Music Department
Location: Bicknell Family Center for the Arts
Address: 1711 S. Homer
Two bands are collaborating on a concert that will celebrate the feeling of community that music helps to build.
The PSU Wind Ensemble and the Pittsburg Community Band will perform at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28 in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, 1711 S. Homer. It is free and open to the public.
The concert, entitled “Communities,” emphasizes the connections that are made through music between musicians, audiences, composers, and music lovers. It will feature music by Percy Grainger, Conni Ellisor, Ulysses S. Kay, and more.
The PSU Wind Ensemble, conducted by Associate Professor of Music Andrew Chybowski, is comprised of some of the most talented student musicians at Pittsburg State University who were selected based on audition.
The Pittsburg Community Band is conducted by PSU alumni Cooper Neil (Pittsburg High School band director) and Delani Vogrin (Pittsburg Community Middle School Band Director), and by Chybowski. It’s comprised of local musicians of all ages.
“When we play, sing, or listen to music, we become part of a community — a circle of music lovers that includes composers, audience, musicians, and all of their diverse connections and influences,” Chybowski said. “This concert celebrates the communities we build through music!”
