Overview


The Pittsburg State University Elementary Education Unified program prepares undergraduate students to teach general education or special education, grades K-6. Our students get hands-on experience in classrooms with award-winning elementary and special education teachers. Our professors teach students how to bring their passion for teaching to the classroom in order to become the teachers that students will remember for the rest of their lives.

Are you currently a paraeducator? Or, do you have college course credit in teacher education? You may be eligible for our Para 2 Teach program. Earn your Elementary Education Unified degree online while balancing the demands of life.

Beginning in the second semester of your freshman year, you will spend over 1,200 hours in general and special education classrooms working with students and mentor teachers. You will practice teaching strategies, classroom management, and observe parent meetings. The coursework and classroom experiences will prepare you to teach general education or special education in grades K-6.

By completing the Elementary Education Unified K-6 program, you will earn BOTH general and special education teaching licenses for grades K-6.  With these licenses, you can work in any of the following roles:
  • General Education Teacher for grades K-6
  • Special Education Teacher for grades K-6
