What is the waiver process?
See
How to Request a Waiver under
Advisor FAQs for a
detailed account of the waiver process. A brief description would be that
the student and advisor together decide whether it would be appropriate
for the student to ask the dean of the student's college for a waiver of a
portion of the WL requirement, usually due to transfer credits. The advisor
writes a letter to the dean giving the arguments for considering a waiver.
The dean makes a decision on a case-by-case basis, normally rejecting the
waiver request unless there is a clear case of hardship for that particular
student and evidence of a goodwill effort to fulfill the WL requirement.
If it is clear that the requirement should be waived, the dean will ask
Degree Checking to do so. If the case is borderline, there are
alternative courses of action.
The role of the WAC coordinator is as a consultant in the waiver process.
If you have any questions regarding the waiver process,
contact Don Judd (the WAC coordinator) at
djudd@pittstate.edu
(or at ext 4697).
