A minor in technology education provides an understanding of industrial materials and processes which could prove beneficial to business, management, communications, and other majors.

Bachelor of Science in Education with a Major in Technology Education
The curriculum leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in technology education. The student needs to complete:
- the thirty-hour technology education core,
- the engineering and design core,
- one of three emphasis areas in production technology, communication technology, or power/energy/transportation technology, and
- meet the teacher education and general education requirements for a teaching certificate.
A minimum of thirty hours of technology education course work needs to be completed at Pittsburg State University. Students in technology education can take any course in the College of Technology for which they have the necessary prerequisites. Students successfully completing this program can receive a Kansas teaching license for Technology Education (typically middle school and entry-level high school technology courses) and a license for either Production Technology or Communication Technology or Power/Energy/Transportation Technology. Technology education majors must apply to the College of Education, Room 115 Hughes Hall, for admission to teacher education during the second semester of their sophomore year. Students transferring in as juniors must apply during their first semester on campus. Refer to the Teacher Education section of this University Catalog for criteria for admission to teacher education and to the professional semester.

Master of Science with a Major in Technology Education
The option in Technology Education provides a core of technological, technical, philosophical and basic research courses to prepare candidates for elective options in supervision, curriculum and instruction, community college teaching, research and preparatory work for advanced graduate study. Candidates for this degree must have a Bachelor of Science degree with an undergraduate major in Technology Education, Industrial Arts or Industrial Education from an accredited institution. Any determined deficiencies must be eliminated prior to the granting of the advanced degree.
The Technology Education option requires the completion of (1) a required graduate core, (2) an option sequence and (3) additional technical/technology courses selected in consultation with the student's advisor.

Master of Science with a Major in Technology Education (College Teaching Option)
The major in Technology Education with an option in College Teaching is designed to prepare individuals interested in teaching technical courses at the community college or a four-year university. However, it does not certify someone to teach at the secondary level, because it does not require teacher education certification as a condition of entrance.
The Technology Education (College Teaching option) requires the completion of (1) a required graduate core, (2) pedagogical courses in college teaching and technology education, and (3) additional technical courses selected in consultation with the candidate's advisor.
