The Pittsburg State University Art Galleries opened their 2012-2013 season with two exhibits: “Vessels,” featuring the sculpture of artist David Marquez in the University Gallery; and “Dream States and Detritus,” the prints and drawings of artist Russ Revock, opening Thursday in the Harry Krug Gallery.
Marquez received a master of arts degree in sculpture in 2002 and a master of fine arts degree in sculpture in 2003, both from the University of Iowa. Marquez has taught visual arts at Western Kentucky University since 2007 and is currently developing his work as a studio artist.
In his work, Marquez plays off the ideas of mass production, cellular growth, biological reproduction and the abstract.
Revock earned his MFA from Ohio University and has been a college educator in northeast Ohio for more than 15 years. He is currently a professor at Cleveland State University.
Through his use of traditional and contemporary printmaking media, hand drawing, digital techniques, photography and found images, Revock challenges traditional notions of beauty.
