A new exhibit of paintings by artist Melissa Wilkinson, “Beau Visage,” opened in the Harry Krug Gallery this week. The exhibit will run through March 7. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Wilkinson, an assistant professor of art at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark., will deliver a public lecture on her work at 2 p.m. on March 7 in 409 Russ Hall. The free lecture is sponsored by PSU’s Women’s Studies Program.
Wilkinson holds a master of fine arts degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Her work has been featured in the “New American Paintings Western Edition No. 90 and she has been included in numerous national exhibitions, including the McNeese National Works on Paper in both 2008 and 2010.
About her exhibit, Wilkinson wrote, “Conventional wisdom is such that the female has been the primary object of beauty. These paintings serve to provide a context in which the male image elicits complex pleasure.”
