For Nebraska native Gretchen Clark, choosing Pittsburg State as the place to pursue a degree - despite the 500-mile distance from her hometown - has been one of the best decisions she ever made.
"Pittsburg has a small-town, friendly atmosphere, which makes me feel comfortable being away from home," said Clark, an elementary education major. "As soon as I looked into the great education program, my decision was made."
Clark has been impressed with her field experience, which gave her an opportunity to observe an "amazing teacher," who encouraged her to interact with students and teach her own lessons. Long term, she hopes to teach and coach, eventually pursuing a graduate degree and a position as an athletic director.
She knows she's on the right path at Pitt State.
"This place has everything I need to be successful," she said. "The programs are effective and the price is great. I know my goals and dreams are attainable."
