By all accounts, 2011 has been an extraordinary year at Pittsburg State University.
It’s been a year of big numbers: The spring semester began with record-setting enrollment. And this fall, with the Gorilla Advantage program extended into Northwest Arkansas, our residence halls had a waiting list.
It has also been a year of big opportunities to do good for your neighbors. This spring’s Big Event, which is organized by students, was the biggest yet with more than 700 students volunteering to clean up and repair properties throughout the city. Hundreds of students and faculty in nursing, family and consumer sciences, and construction management and construction engineering technologies also played a significant role in October’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Joplin, Mo., which provided seven families with seven new homes in a week.
Both in and out of the classrooms, our students have been excelling in big ways. From May’s SAE Baja Kansas competition (held for the first time at PSU) to the numerous musical, theatrical and art offerings to a winning football season, the events at PSU have provided unparalleled excitement and entertainment for the community.
It’s a great time to be part of the Pittsburg State University family. As we celebrate this time of year, we hope that everyone has a safe, relaxing, and special holiday.
While some essential offices will remain open, most PSU offices close at the end of the workday on Dec. 22 and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The following are operating hours for various locations on campus. To reach University Development in order to make a year-end gift, call 620-235-4768.
