PSU celebrates International Education Week
One of the most enriching experiences any student can have is an opportunity to participate in a study-abroad program. At Pittsburg State University, students benefit both from their experiences in other nations and also from studying alongside students from around the world who have chosen PSU.
The university will celebrate those international opportunities during National International Education Week, Nov. 12-16.
Julia Helminiak, study abroad coordinator at PSU, said events planned for the week not only educate U.S. students about the many opportunities to study abroad, but also highlight the rich diversity of international cultures represented on the PSU campus.
“It’s a week for awareness for them to realize there are international events they can experience even being here in Pittsburg,” Helminiak said. “It gives them (students) experience learning how to cross communicate. Less than 2 percent of students nationally study abroad. If they have some sort of international experience, they would be set apart from other people applying for jobs or grad schools.”
Meltem Tugut, international programs coordinator for PSU, said the events give international students the opportunity to share their cultures with the local community.
“It’s good for international students to share their culture with people who haven’t had opportunities to see,” Tugut said. “People will get a glimpse of different cultures together.”
