Family Day 2007 features new activities for families
With Family Day 2007 just around the corner, PSU families will have more options for entertainment this year than ever before.
The Campus Activities Center will sponsor a variety of activities for students, families, and the community throughout the weekend of Sept. 21-23. The highlight of the weekend – the Pitt State vs. Missouri Western football game – will kick off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.
Other activities include a comedy show Friday evening at the U-Club in the Overman Student Center, a golf tournament Sunday morning at Countryside Golf Course, and a host of fun activities on Saturday, including: a 5K Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m.; Freshman Parents Session at 9 a.m.; President’s Brunch in Russ Hall at 10 a.m.; Campus Open House at 11 a.m.; and GorillaFest at the University Lake featuring musician Jeff Allen at 11 a.m. (For more on these events, go to www.pittstate.edu/cac/family.)
New this year to Family Day are additional activities geared especially toward alumni. The office of Alumni and Constituent Relations has added activities designed to bring graduates and their families back to campus.
“Our involvement is brand new this year, and we’re excited about the things to come,” said Johnna Schremmer, director of alumni and constituent relations. “We’re trying to make Pitt State a place our alumni, friends and families want to come home to on this special weekend.”
Prior to Saturday’s game, the office will sponsor free carnival games for parents and children on the Oval beginning at 9 a.m. Tours of the Nature Reach program, the L. Russell Kelce Planetarium, and a child-friendly presentation by the College of Technology will also be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Then at 11:30, a special tailgate lunch under the alumni tent in Gorilla Village will be held to celebrate GorillaFest.
