C.A.R.E.S. gets new Gorillas off to a good start
The 2008 freshman class, most with parents in tow, began arriving on campus on June 9 for summer C.A.R.E.S. (Campus Advisement, Registration and Enrollment Sessions). Students participating in C.A.R.E.S. learn some of the basics about the campus and college life, including the bookstore, student health center, student employment and university housing. The new freshmen visit the academic departments, receive advisement and enroll in their fall classes.
Jon Bartlow, assistant director in the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services, said a few new sessions have been added for parents this year. One session focuses on campus safety. In that session, university officials discuss campus safety and give parents and new freshmen the opportunity to sign up for the university’s new text messaging alert system.
Another addition to the C.A.R.E.S. program is a session called IKE (International Experience and Knowledge). In that session, parents and students learn about the university’s many study-abroad opportunities and their benefits for students.
C.A.R.E.S. repeats eight times in June and July. Bartlow said all sessions are already full with the exception of June 30 and July 11.
C.A.R.E.S. is organized by the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services. For more information, visit the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services Web page or call 620-235-4251.
