Students, university all benefit from on-campus jobs
As Pittsburg State University celebrates National Student Employment Week this week, it is important to reflect on the varied jobs PSU students do on campus, according to David Hogard, assistant director for experiential programs in the Office of Career Services.
Hogard said nearly 1,000 students work on campus and they do some important jobs.
“A lot of students do the front-line jobs in the academic and administrative offices,” Hogard said. “They are often the first people visitors meet when they come on campus or the first persons callers talk to when they call.”
A host of others work in positions that may not be as visible but are every bit as important to the operation of the university. (Read about Jennifer McFall, a dispatcher for PSU Police and Parking Services and this year’s Student Employee of the Year.)
Hogard said students learn a lot from campus jobs. In fact, he said, campus work experiences have helped many students focus their career plans.
“Everyone wins with on-campus work experiences,” Hogard said. “Students and the university both benefit.”
