Elections

The process to elect Senators, President, Vice-president for the upcoming term for Student Government is a fairly lengthy process. The election process begins as early as February with the signing of petitions, the establishment of political parties, and putting together of candidate platforms. Each candidate must submit a petition signed by 50 current PSU students to be eligible to run. On their petition, candidates must decide to run for a Senate, President, or Vice-president position. A President and Vice-president teams must run together. After petition are completed, a candidate orientation session is held to familiarize the candidates with the election process and to introduce the Election Guidelines. This session is usually held in late February or early March. A campaigning season, lasting several weeks, follows the orientation session. During campaigning candidates make themselves and their platforms known to the student body. "Meet the Candidates" day and a President/Vice-president debate are held during this time. The actual election usually takes place during the first week of April. Every student at PSU who is currently enrolled in any amount of hours may vote for candidates.
