The purpose of the Public Relations Department is to promote the Student Government Association and it’s projects and initiatives to the Pittsburg State University campus and community. Promotion includes press releases, e-mails, posters, and bulletin boards. We try to find ways to increase the school spirit on campus and are always looking for new ways to promote PSU.
Projects:
- SGA in the Oval: This project began in Fall, 2004. The program’s purpose is to bring ideas, concerns, or suggestions from students directly to SGA. Once a month, SGA sets up a booth on campus to directly interact with the student body.
- Web site: The SGA Web site can be used by any student organization as both a resource and a publicity tool. Student organizations can submit events to place on the calendar as well.
- T-Shirt Cannon: During PSU Football Season, SGA sponsors a T-Shirt Cannon to shoot T-shirts into the crowd at home games. Each “Gorilla Touchdown” prompts another cannon shot. These shirts are made locally and are sponsored by local businesses. Not only does it get fans excited during the game, it is a great promotion for business, PSU, and SGA.
- New/Old Senate Banquet: At the end of the semester, past SGA members are recognized for outstanding work over the past year, and incoming members are welcomed. Awards and recognition is given out by the organization.
- Pitt C.A.R.E.S.: The Office of Admissions sponsors Pitt C.A.R.E.S during the summer months for incoming PSU freshmen. SGA participates in these designated events by setting up a booth and answering any questions students may have about the organization and the University.
- The Kaye Lynne Webb Spirit Award: Since 1996, SGA has recognized a student, faculty or staff member, or community member who displays outstanding Pitt State Spirit with the Kaye Lynne Webb Spirit Award. The recipients are recognized at the Annual SGA Banquet at the end of the year. Click here for a list of past Kaye Lynne Webb Spirit Award recipients.
