For some, the campus never closes

Each year, just before Christmas and lasting until after the New Year’s holiday, Pittsburg State University “closes” the campus. Heat is reduced to the buildings and parking lots are nearly empty. But for a surprising number of PSU employees, the campus never really closes.
SIFE receives grants to bolster employment programming

Recently, PSU’s SIFE team announced it had been selected to receive a $1,500 Women’s Economic Empowerment grant from Wal-Mart through a project partnership with SIFE USA Headquarters. The grant will support many of the group’s ongoing projects to help unemployed women in the community as they gain skills to find jobs.
PSU ROTC commissions new officers

Pittsburg State University ROTC commissioned three cadets as second lieutenants on Friday, Dec. 16, in ceremonies in historic McCray Hall. All three will receive bachelor’s degrees in commencement ceremonies this weekend.
The Slipper Finally Fits Again: Gorillas Are National Champions

The slipper finally fits, again. Saturday, Pitt State finished off a magical season with a 35-21 victory over Wayne (Mich.) State in the title game before a sea of crimson and gold clad fans at Braly Municipal Stadium.

Students take ‘Teacher’s Oath’

About 85 students took the PSU Teacher’s Oath this week at a recognition ceremony signifying the completion of their student teaching experience. College of Education officials said the oath reminds the students of the great responsibility they have as educators.

When Aisha Ford walks across the stage to receive her diploma this weekend, she won’t be alone. Family and friends will surround her, of course, but she’ll also be accompanied by the memory of her best friend, Alanna Smith.
