Romanticism and its effects on the landscape of writing will be the focus of Pittsburg State University's upcoming Emmett Memorial Lecture, set for 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Balkans Room at Overman Student Center.

Jeffrey Thomson, an author and environmentalist who serves as an associate professor of creative writing at the University of Maine-Farmington, will present a reading of his work at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, in the Axe Library Special Collections Room. The free event will be followed by a reception hosted by Friends of Axe Library.

In honor of Women’s History Month, celebrated poet and author Annie Finch will present a reading of her work at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 in the Governor’s Room of Overman Student Center. A reception will follow in the Heritage Room.

A fascinating poet and fiction writer will read from her work at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in 107 Grubbs Hall at Pittsburg State University. Dr. Stephen Meats, chair of the Department of English, said Bonnie Jo Campbell's work presents a worldview unlike any other.

Faculty authors are often recognized for their nonfiction work, such as research projects or textbooks. But Pittsburg State University also has several distinguished creative writers on staff, and two of them will soon share their work with students and community members.

This year's Distinguished Visiting Writers Series at Pittsburg State University is set to kick off later this month with a reading from an award-winning poet and novelist.
