With national unemployment now in double digits, Pittsburg State University’s Career Services Office is doing everything it can to help students preparing to enter the job market get an edge with a program the office calls “Career Boost.”

Pittsburg State University is helping students and employers make a connection this week with two big career fairs that will welcome more than 125 companies to campus.

To better prepare students for the first impressions they’re about to make on the job hunt, the Office of Career Services at PSU is hosting “Career Makeover: From Handshakes to Haircuts” from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom at Overman Student Center.

While Pittsburg State University now offers degree programs in a huge variety of fields, the school started in 1903 as a training ground for teachers. Continuing that tradition, hundreds of education students and their potential employers filled the Weede Gymnasium Tuesday for the annual Teacher Interview Day.

A slim job market won't stop 85 employers and graduate schools from visiting Pittsburg State University next week for the Spring Career Day, to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of Overman Student Center.

With a new career counselor for students and reorganization to the office, Career Services at Pittsburg State University is aiming for better efficiency when it comes to helping students find jobs.
